WHISPERS

OF  THE

PAST

Our Story

Welcome to "Whispers of the Past." - a poignant video/film website dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich narratives of Hmong elders who witnessed the hardships of being Hmong. "Whispers of the Past" was inspired and awakened by a previous project called "Hmong Pride". This project was a group project that consisted of Kennedy Moua, the director of this documentary, Deanave Yang, the co-director, Laichee Khang, an editor and subject, and many more people that have contributed or was involved in the making of this film.

Our Goal

After sharing and finishing Hmong pride, we wanted to expand on empowering the voices of our Hmong elders- that's when we've decided to make this website. We aim to build on the rich cultural narrative established by Hmong Pride, but with a new focus on preserving and sharing the untold stories of Hmong history. While Hmong Pride celebrated the resilience and strength of the community mainly based on the war, Whispers of the Past will delve deeper into the personal histories, personal stories, and ancestral experiences that have shaped the Hmong people. This website will serve as a digital archive, where memories and oral histories are carefully documented and passed on to future generations. Through Whispers of the Past, we hope to amplify the voices of our elders, honoring their legacy while creating a space for learning, reflection, and connection.
